The crackling of the fireplace and the smell of pine on the hearth can only mean one thing – it is yule time!
Join the NC Maritime Museum at Southport on November 25th from 1pm-3pm for its popular program, Victorian Holiday. Whether you are 9 or 90 years old, making unconventional holiday decorations is fun.
Making unconventional decorations has been the hallmark of the NC Maritime Museum at Southport’s Victorian Holiday. This year, we have updated our ornaments to include seaside-scapes, starfish painting, and of course, spiders for good luck. Patrons will also enjoy stories of the Christmas spider and Father Time. The program will conclude with a tour of the museum at 3 p.m., focusing on holiday traditions from the colonial period to the Gilded Age.
Appropriate for all ages; $5 per person. Call the Museum at 910-457-0003 to register.

“The Southern Living Idea House is an important marker in the island’s development,” said Charles Paul, III, CEO for Bald Head Island Limited. “It will bring great exposure to the island, but most importantly is consistent with the Mitchell Family’s legacy of sensitive land planning and architectural design in harmony with nature.”

In the early 1900s the Bald Head light was downgraded to a low-intensity, steady light and was finally discontinued in 1935.
Since then the foundation has never ceased in it’s efforts to maintain this piece of history that was left to them and has also worked to educate visitors from all over the world.
