Join the Cape Fear Cruisers for their annual Classic Cars ‘n Rock ‘n Roll in Southport on Saturday, October 27th, 2018. This event features a car show, ice cream social, and of course, rock ‘n roll concerts.

Entertainment by DJ Billy V and live music by the Back Porch Rockers will be on the corner of Bay and Howe streets and vendors will be there with unique snacks and goods.

Join the Brunswick Town / Fort Anderson State Historic Site on October 27th and 28th, 2018 for Port Brunswick Day!
Living historians, dressed in 18th-century attire, will demonstrate what life was once like in this early port town on the lower Cape Fear. This free public event will be held from 10 am to 4 pm both days.
Visitors will have the opportunity to try their hand at the militia drill, take a turn in the stocks and pillory, dip their own beeswax candle, and much, much more! Free and fun for all ages!

Enjoy an afternoon of Halloween festivities on October 27th from 3 pm to 5 pm and a doggie costume contest at Southport’s Howl-O-Ween! This event takes place in Waterfront Park and is free for all. Let your pup take part in the Halloween festivities!

 

Halloween Ghost Ship

What better way to celebrate Halloween than to climb aboard a ghost ship at the NC Maritime Museum!

On October 27th from 1-3pm, mariners of all ages will enjoy tales of lost souls, pirates, and other mysteries along the Lower Cape Fear at the NC Maritime Museum at Southport.

Enjoy hauntingly good stories about ghosts, goblins, and ghouls! Get into the spirit as you design and create trick-or-treat bags, send secret messages through ghostwriting, make your own ghost eyes, and sit on a pine coffin to have your silhouette immortalized during shadow drawing.

Enjoy hauntingly good refreshments with the other goblins and ghouls and perhaps even a ghost of Brunswick’s past!

Bald Head Island Conservancy

The Bald Head Island Conservancy is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1983. The Conservancy’s mission is barrier island conservation, preservation, and education. It is located in a unique area with in the Smith Island Complex which includes Bald Head, Middle and Bluff Islands, all of which are bounded by the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean.

The Conservancy sponsors and facilitates scientific research that benefits coastal communities and provides numerous recreational and educational activities to the public.  In coordination with various organizations, partnerships, and collaborations, the Conservancy has led the nation in conservation and research efforts and is uniquely poised to become a leader in Barrier Island Conservation worldwide.

The Conservancy provides numerous activities for maintaining and helping support the natural habitat and wildlife of the coastal area. They provide children’s camps, turtle walks, island nature tours, fishing schools, ride-along programs, semester abroad programs and the sea turtle protection program.  They also offer touch tank times for children and free movies about the local wildlife, including sea turtles.

Kent Mitchell Nature Trail

Enjoy a scenic walk through nature and explore some of the best wildlife Bald Head Island has to offer. One of the best known tourist attractions nearby is the Kent Mitchell Nature Trail. This is one of the best ways to see the entire area and learn about the animals and plants which are native to the area.
While most people will choose the main trail this isn’t the only one to walk along. Actually there are quite a few different trails which are suitable for different abilities. If you have enough time and feel able then it’s great to walk along all of the paths and trails that you come across. Not all of the trails are paved so these should be avoided if the ground is wet to avoid causing too much damage to the land.

The best part about the Kent Mitchell Nature Trail is that it’s suitable for everyone no matter their age or ability. There are a number of different paths which suit different people. The easiest path is level and takes you through a beautiful forest. There are some bits which pass over water, however there are good quality boardwalk bridges stretching right over them.

The main easy trail is paved and takes around 15 minutes for most people to complete.The nature trail isn’t just a great place to see lots of native wildlife. It’s also a fantastic place to go and relax in complete comfort. You can either laze around on the grass or alternatively sit down on one of the many benches which are around the area.

The forest is unique. Many other forests by the coastline in other areas are in danger of disappearing as a result of development. This means that this nature walk is one of the rare opportunities that you will get to experience it.
