Family Activities are offered throughout the year such as:
Island Nature Tour
Explore beautiful Bald Head Island on this guided tour of beach, marsh, and maritime forest habitats. Discover what makes the island so unique, search for animals at several wildlife hotspots, and learn about the Conservancy’s conservation initiatives.
Bald Head Island Birding
Bald Head Island has been designated an “Important Bird Area” by Audubon due to the incredible diversity of birds that can be found here. Join us on this guided tour as we search for many different species of birds among various island ecosystems. No previous birding experience required.
Middle Island Exploration
Explore secluded Middle Island for an exclusive nature tour featuring the Ibis Sanctuary and views of Cape Creek.
Kayaking the Creeks
Explore the pristine creeks of BHI on a 2-hour guided tour at high, mid, or low tide. Double kayaks will be used for participants. Kayak trips are rated as an intermediate level of difficulty due to tides and wind on the marsh.
BHI After Dark
Have you ever wondered what creatures come out at night on Bald Head Island? Join us as we explore the island after dark and search for deer, alligators, frogs, and more!
Kid’s Marsh Crabbing and Fishing
(Ages 5-12)
Head to the creek and prepare to get your hands muddy catching fish and crabs. No fishing experience required.
Reptile Round-Up
Meet and interact with some of the Conservancy’s ambassador animals, including turtles and snakes. Learn about our scaly friends and find out how the Conservancy is working to protect these important animals. All participants (children and adults) are required to register.
Tidal Explorations
Meet tide pool critters and learn about animals that live in places where tides rise and fall every day. All participants (children and adults) are required to register.
Hands-On Dissection
Understanding the internal and external anatomy of an animal is an important part of conservation science. Join us as we examine and dissect either a squid or dogfish shark to learn out more about these animals.
Sea Turtle 101
We all love our turtles here on Bald Head Island, but how much do we know about them? What do sea turtles eat? Where do they go after they hatch? What is their shell called? In this program you can learn more about our beloved sea turtles that are out in the ocean. Please note that we are not a sea turtle rehabilitation center and do not have live sea turtles in our collection.
